About Us

In 1988, Bob began producing the Creative Training Techniques™ newsletter in partnership with Lakewood Publications (which was also the publisher of Training magazine at the time).

For the first few years of CTT’s existence, I wrote every single word of the newsletter, but I gradually turned over most of the writing to others – except, of course, for my column.

In 2007 I became the sole owner of the newsletter. In 2013 we rebranded the newsletter “Bob Pike’s Training and Performance Forum” and it became a membership. So, who is Bob Pike – and why should you listen to him? Bob has long been referred to by both Training Magazine and ASTD (now ATD) as the “Trainer’s Trainer”. His first book, the “Creative Training Techniques™ Handbook” is the best-selling train the trainer book ever published with more the 330,000 copies sold in the first three editions. The fourth edition, retitled “Master Trainers Handbook” was published in 2015. He has authored or coauthored more than 30 other books in the field including “Dealing with Difficult Participants”, “50 Creative Closers”, “50 Creative Openers”, and “Unlock the Power to Learn; Unleash the Power to Perform”.

He has presented at every ATD ICE Conference since 1977 and at every Training Magazine Conference since they started in 1978. For more than 25 years his has been among the top 3 speakers in both attendance and evaluations at those conferences.  In 1991 he earned his CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation from the National Speakers Association (NSA) and in 1999 he was awarded the CPAE (Council of Peers Award for Excellence) by NSA and was inducted into the Speakers Hall of Fame.  In 2007 the Instructional Systems Association presented him with its “Thought Leaders Award” for lifetime contributions to the field and TrainingIndustry.com named him one of the 20 most influential people globally in the training and performance field. In 2013 ATD made him their second CPLP Fellow (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) for his contributions to developing and supporting that designation.

Over a period of 35 years he built the Bob Pike Group into a multimillion dollar training and performance improvement consulting company. More than 125,000 people on five continents have graduated from his 2-3 day train the trainer workshops. To date Bob has designed over 600 training programs of a ½ day of longer for clients like IBM, Hewlett Packard, Pfizer, World Vision, Honeywell, and many others. He has worked in more than 25 countries during his career.

He has served on the board of directors of ASTD (now ATD), NSA, and the International Alliance for Learning. In 2002 he joined the board of Lead Like Jesus and served as its chairman from 2005 to 2009. He was lead designer for the Leadership Encounter with Jesus program and is a master trainer for its certification program.
